1B Media Language

Analyse one of your pieces of coursework in terms of Media Language.  Within this essay I will assess my work throughout my first year of media studies; of which I produced a short film opening based on the genre of sport. Media language is presented in various ways within this product and the audience is able to receive various connotations through images within. This production enabled us to communicate to our audience through media language which comes alongside a variety of different aspects; the way we used mise en scene, camera work, editing and sound. There was also various use of codes and conventions in order to use stereotypes to enhance the story of the film opening.  Mise en Scene allowed us to connect to the audience especially through the characters. With there being two girls; one rich and one poor, the general view would be that the poor girl would not perform as well as the one who is rich, however we wanted to diminish this stereotype by showing both...

1B Genre

Genre is a key factor which we focused on throughout our A2 module where we produced a music video. Our band was named "Vanilla"; also the name of our first album which we promoted with the release of a music video to a single on the album which was titled "On our own". This was to the song "I won't" by Little Mix and the genre we focused on for our music video was country. This was apparent throughout the video mainly due to the location and costumes used. Although the song wasn't initially recognised under the genre of country, we thought it had many elements that fitted into this category and we made it fit even more throughout the production of our music video. To make our music video recognisable as a country video they way we promoted our video and presented the band within the video, this is through the use of various locations; such as being based within wooden backgrounds, in fields and on a farm with animals. By using various different ...

1B Narrative

Apply the concept of narrative to one of your media productions.  Narrative is a concept often followed when the creation of a film trailer or short film opening is underway. Throughout the stage of Year 12, our final product was to produce a short film opening on a genre of our choice and including our own ideas. Choosing the genre of sport allowed us to widen our ideas of where the film opening would go and what themes it would portray, this was called 'On Track'. This was based on two girls; one rich, one poor, and it showed how money does not explain the amount of talent one has. This is portrayed in a variety of ways; how both girls have the same amount of talent in each of the sports they conduct, how clothing does not define performance and how the location of which you train does not affect performance level either. Although we wanted to portray a 'story', the structure of our film opening is in a slightly dismantled order switching between each character to ...
