CONCLUSION- Conclude how skills have developed. What technology was used and compared what was and wasn't effective, difficult, did it work? How has digital technology enabled you to become an effective media post-production producer.
Within our two years of undertaking media studies, our skills for post production have developed from not knowing how to make something of the product after filming has been completed. From this we have understood how to develop and analyse products to make the final outcome the best it could be. Within AS the post production process was minimal in comparison to the A2 module. For example within the first year, after filming, we edited and only produced a few texts such as a poster and website, where as in A2 we did a vast majority of feedback and analysis on our own and others products, we designed texts such as the digipak and website, most significantly we produced a music video, a very long process, however a lot of knowledge and post production skills were built up by the end of this.
During AS we developed our product through the use of a variety of technologies such as Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Youtube and other platforms on the internet such as blogger and wix. We was first of all introduced to Blogger, a platform containing all of our work created throughout, such as final products, texts, planning and more. However, with the use of Premiere and Photoshop, this enabled us to begin with post production, where our skills began to develop. Photoshop was used to build a poster for our final product, however this was the first time we had used this software. In addition to this, we had an task of Juno where was given a criteria to fulfil, we used Premiere to edit this.
In addition with the use of Premiere in a primary task, for our final product in Year 12, we used this to edit all of our footage and piece it together to make the final outcome of the short film opening. This enabled us to understand the foundations of the editing process and understand a few more features to do with making editing more effective, such as the use of cloning and different effects, Within our preliminary task for our music video we had finally understood this programme however this gave us the chance to copy a piece of footage and match as much as possible, this allowed us to play with effects and different angles, helping us develop our post production skills. However, this is only minimal in comparison to the skills developed from our final product; the music video. Many of my editing skills advanced during this period such as the understanding of cloning (how to use it effectively) and how to change the colour and appearance of all the footage to make all the colour levels look equal and fluent throughout.
A lot of the text was created in the post production phase, as with having a collection of footage ready to edit, we could now build a brand image and enhance our use of synergy for our band within the music video. The footage that we now had we came to realise a lot of it was not what we wanted or needed, a lot of the lip sync was out of time therefore it could not be used, or we rejected it for the reason that it didn't match our music video, such as the location or angles and we did not want to use this footage due to it possibly dragging the video below the standard we aimed for.
Music and sound was a significant element used throughout our AS and A2 courses, significantly used within our final year. Although used within our first year, it wasn't an aspect that was the main focus, it would either be dialogue or a sound track in the background of the video, where as during Year 13 we understood the importance of sound, with it being a music video and we needed to efficiently match the visuals with the lyrics against our chosen song. From this we chose a song without an instrumental, however we decided to trial the use of an instrumental which we edited on ourselves with the beat of the original song and we made it flow and to be a success. For this music we retrieved this off of youtube and saved it to and MP3 track which was a skill developed during the phase of post production.
Throughout editing we used a variety of transitions, rather than just straight cuts, some of this was initially done within the footage recorded. For example within our music video a hat was thrown into the air and it came back down in a different location with someone different. On the editing side, we used fades and transitions of a light effect that blended one shot into the next. We also used straight cuts extremely fast so that our footage switched to the sound of the beat. In addition to this we also used reverse where it was appropriate so that it was more exciting and fit with our theme. Text and titles are another type of skill we developed within the editing stage of our post production within our final year, this is not a feature we had previously used, if so it was used in a basic form, where as text was used in our music video to show our song title and our band name, which was used in a way where footage was active behind still text.
Although editing is an important factor of post-production, within this stage many other skills were developed in aid of benefiting the final product such as the creation of various texts such as the digipak, website, tour poster and magazines. Comparing this process to year 12, it is apparent my skills have developed to a large extent as much of the post production in Year 12 was just editing and maybe the creation of a poster on either Powerpoint or Word, where as in our final year multiple new technologies and platforms were used such as Photoshop, Vimeo and many more. Wix was familiar within our first year however basic skills were used, following into our A2 module and our skills have advanced majorly with the incorporation of images, sound, text and various links to other pages, such as the creation and links to our own merchandise. To market our final product we developed various skills such as the production of magazine covers and articles, an album cover. As well as this, we retrieved multiple different audience feedbacks in order to help us improve our final product according to our target audiences opinions. We received this either through questionnaires on paper, or we were introduced to a new platform on the internet; survey monkey, where was managed to get feedback on an online basis. Youtube was a platform we had previously used however for our final year we recognised Vimeo which allowed us to broadcast a better version of the final product. This shows there was multiple times where our post production skills had developed from the beginning of AS, therefore contributing to our final product.
Our advertisement and digipak was a new feature which we developed in our final year of media and we developed our skills within different technology and our knowledge. For example, we used powerpoint to develop our digipak, however the images used were heavily edited on Photoshop in order for all the colours to match and all text to be in the correct positions. Moreover, within our other texts we had previously only made a poster which was edited on Word or some text inserted on Photoshop, however these skills had now been developed for the post-production process with the adjustments of different levels, the use of the lasso tool for our magazine article, and we also edited images from the internet such as the "billboard" logo for our magazine cover. In addition to this, for our magazine article we finally used Microsoft Publisher which we had not used before, this enabled us to make structured columns for a genuine look of an article. Within A2 we had now developed our skills within our presentations to show our audiences ideas and previews of the final outcome, for example we were now using platforms such as Emaze, Prezi and Photobucket, all of which we embedded within our blog; on the online platform blogger. Linking to blogger, we also used this platform for evaluation purposes which allowed us to analyse our final product and all stages we had taken in the build up to the outcome. To produce these evaluations in Year 12 we only wrote on essay based terms to conclude all events of our final product, in comparison to this, in Year 13 we evaluated our final product in different forms such as using voice overs and editing clips within Premiere for it then to be uploaded onto Youtube, we had also used presentation techniques with features such as images, texts and gifs to give a dynamic visual of what the text is explaining.
In conclusion, it is apparent that post-production skills over the two years have developed majorly to contribute to the final product, this was due to the acknowledgement and understanding of new technologies, platforms and softwares. In Year 13, we had the chance to develop new texts in order to promote our product, as well as this we began in Year 12 to produce a final product with a majority of around 20 shots, to the advancement in Year 13 of having an outcome containing over 100 shots, which is a vast comparison. This allowed us to develop our editing skills as well as the development of ancillary text such as the digipak and website, which we an equally important element of the final product within Year 13.

This is speedy essay (25 minutes) so you just need a quick intro to explain what your productions were at AS and A2 and how you increasingly developed your skills in your productions. Forget blogger and any presentational tools just stick to - dancing animals, juno, prelim, film opening, film poster, prelim mv, lip sync, banana phone, stealomatic, music video, digipak, website.
